You will not be able to comment on CBC news articles on social media for the next month as part of a pilot project from the publicly funded broadcaster.
The publicly funded Canadian Broadcasting Corporation is turning off Facebook comments on all of their news articles as part of a pilot project for the next month.
The CBC made the announcement yesterday, however you can still comment directly on their web site.
CBC posted an article explaining their reasoning, citing mental health of journalists. They also note, the amount of vitriol online and in the comment section right now is unprecedented . People are fed up with lockdowns, being out of work and just the general stress of the past year in a pandemic and many are taking their anger and frustrations out online.
Some people have applauded the move, while others have taken the CBC to task for silencing public opinion.
