Oxford County has some tips to make sure the Christmas holiday doesn't go to waste.
OXFORD - It's the most wonderful time of the year, but it can also become the most wasteful.
Oxford County has some tips for everyone as we head into the Christmas holiday.
Make sure you flatten and bundle your cardboard boxes and remove all tape, plastic film, twist ties, and other objects from the packaging. You can recycle wrapping paper as long as it's not foil based. It's also a good idea to save your ribbons and bows for next year.
If you're throwing out any Christmas lights or battery powered toys, make sure the batteries are removed before it gets thrown in the garbage. Used batteries can be dropped off at the Oxford County Waste Management Facility or The Woodstock EnviroDepot.
Bulky styrofoam can also be dropped off at the Oxford County Waste Management Facility and The Woodstock EnviroDepot, in addition to the Tillsonburg Transfer Station.
In terms of curbside collection, Norwich and East Zorra-Tavistock will have updated collection days for Christmas Day and New Years Day. If you're collection day falls on a Thursday, it will be picked up on the Saturday instead (ex: Saturday December 27th instead of Thursday December 25th and Saturday January 3rd instead of Thursday January 1st).
The City of Woodstock also has an updated schedule for the holiday season, and you can find it online here.
