Over 230 people were on hand to see three artists from Woodstock receive awards at the annual juried exhibition at the Woodstock Art Gallery.

WOODSTOCK - The winners from Wednesday's annual juried exhibition were announced yesterday.

The Woodstock Art Gallery held their 61st annual event, also called Visual Elements.

Director and Curator Mary Reid says there were four recipients across five categories.

"We have three jurors and they're each allowed to select one work of their choice to provide an award to. So our jurors selected a work called Gentle Breeze by Pat Gibson, and she's from Woodstock. We also had a sculpture by Brian Reynolds and the title of the work is called Sphere and he's also from Woodstock. And another Woodstonian, Mercedes Victoria, she did a beautiful pencil drawing called Insert Hope. Empty. Repeat. And they were all the winners of the Juror's Choice Award."

Tillsonburg's Tabitha Verbuyst was another recipient who won the Best In Show Award for her painting called How Convenient.

The event drew over 230 people. Reid says it made for a fun night.

"The place was packed. We also had fantastic musical entertainment by the Nelson Family Bluegrass band, as well as fantastic food and wine provided by Pelee Island Winery. So it was a wonderful celebration."

Visual Elements looks at the best of Oxford County's local talent. 36 works were selected out of 103 submissions. Reid says the People's Choice Award is the final award and that will be presented this fall.

She says says the adjudicators will be back for a free event on September 14th to explain the selection process. The jurors will lead a walk and talk and it is open to the public.
