Changes Coming at TDMH

Changes are coming as the Transitional Care Unit at Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital is expected to become non-operational.

TILLSONBURG - A care unit at Tillsonburg Hospital is entering its final month.

The Transitional Care Unit opened on April 1st last year as a 12-bed unit for patients awaiting their next care destination. CEO and President of Rural Roads Health Services Nadia Facca shares how successful the unit has been.

"Since the opening, we've had 169 patient admissions to the transitional care unit. We've had many positive patient outcomes with successful transitions to other care organizations or to their home."

Facca says the opening of the new LTC home in Tillsonburg, namely, peopleCare Tillsonburg, provides the anticipated increased community capacity required to transition patients safely. She adds that the patients currently in the Transitional Care Unit will continue to get the care they need, but she says when the TCU is expected to stop.

"We anticipate that the transitional care unit will no longer be operational as of September 1st."

The Rural Roads Health Services leadership team plans to redistribute all remaining funded acute medical-surgical inpatient beds across all available patient care units, including the unit that housed the TCU, to create more private and semi-private patient rooms.
