The Oxford OPP laid charges after a transport truck hit a bridge in Zorra Township.
ZORRA - A transport truck has hit the bridge on the 17th Line of Zorra Township.
The bridge is clearly marked by signage in both directions. Oxford OPP were called out to the collision on Monday afternoon around 1:30 p.m. Nobody was injured; however, the crash did cause significant damage to the truck. The 38-year-old driver from London was charged with Careless Driving and Disobey Sign.
When it comes to low clearance bridges and overpasses, police never cease to be amazed at how some professional truck drivers think they can outsmart them or squeeze underneath them anyway.
Tips for drivers on how to avoid low-clearance bridges and overpasses:
- If you have a GPS unit specifically made for commercial motor vehicles, keep the updates updated
- Don't rely on the unit exclusively unless you want to run the risk of getting wedged under a bridge and have to deal with an embarrassing situation, a fine, and the potential loss of your cargo
- Have another reliable source that you can consult, like a good map book or truckers atlas
- Pay attention to road clearance signs
