City police warn of scam arriving in local mailboxes.
Woodstock Police are warning the public not to fall for a new twist on an old scam.
A envelope arrived at one person's home in Woodstock recently with a cheque inside, along with a handwritten note giving the person instructions.
The letter indicated the recipient had been selected as a "mystery shopper". The complainant was instructed on how to purchase products so the company could compare prices with competitors. She was also instructed to conduct investigations of Western Union and MoneyGram to ensure that employees were following the rules of money transfers exceeding $1000.00.
It was discovered the cheque that was written was for a closed account that was associated with other fraudulent activity.
Police are urging the public not to fall for similar scams, and to report them to police.
