ChildCan will be hosting a fundraiser, it is the ChildCan PJ Walk in London
LONDON - ChildCan will be hosting a fundraising event in London.
The ChildCan PJ Walk will take place at Springbank Park on Saturday, September 23rd from 4 until 7 p.m.
ChildCan Volunteer, Elizabeth Freitas says Oxford County has been a huge help in supporting the event.
"This year we plan to do the silent auction as well. A lot of companies and businesses have already sponsored the event from Woodstock, as well as give items for the silent auction."
Freitas is from Woodstock, and has a huge tie to the event, as her son Kerian was diagnosed with cancer and had to use the resources of ChildCan.
She goes on to say that the walk raised $82,000 last year, and the hope is to raise more. Freitas mentions there will be a new twist to the walk this year.
"The goal is to raise awareness for childhood cancer. This year they added a pajama reference to it, because a lot of kids are in the hospitals and they do stay in their pajamas, so it is like we are walking with them while they are in the hospital."
Freitas adds, if you are not able to join the walk in London, but want to help support the cause, you can always sponsor the event, donate an item to the silent auction, donate to a team in the event, or register a team to do a virtual walk or walk in the community you are apart of.
Here is a list of companies from Woodstock that have sponsored the event: Century21 Woodstock, Zehrs Woodstock, Drs. Brant, Khanna & Thornton Optometrists, Coach Contracting, and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada Inc.
Also, here are some businesses that have donated items for the auction: Rexall Woodstock, Picards Peanuts, Sportschek, Drayton Entertainment, Twin Valley Zoo, The Happy Hippo, Willow Lake Campground and RV Park, No Frills Woodstock, The Rustic Palm in Paris, and more to come.
