Christmas In The City

Holiday craft store opens downtown with the help of volunteers

A group of volunteers are looking to make a difference through their not for profit holiday store.

The Christmas in the City store opened earlier this month and is run by a group of volunteers with the goal of bringing people into the downtown to shop.

Volunteer Anita Welsh tells Heart FM local artisans and crafters are welcome to bring in their goods to be sold.

"We give them an invoice for it, then they tell us what price they want on it, we price it, we give them a vendor number and then we charge a 25% consignment fee which basically is to cover the hydro and gas of the building and the business tax and all the things that go along with running a store."

Welsh says any money they may make that's extra will be donated to a local organization to be determined later.

Welsh says she has had lots of support from the community with several local businesses donating their services such as carpeting and fire prevention items to ensure the business could get up and running.

She says business has been very good with people from Tillsonburg and London stopping by to shop. She says she then encourages them to visit other shops in the area and eat at local restaurants.

Christmas in the City is located on Dundas Street next to Union Burger and is open Monday to Thursday11am-5pm , Fridays until 7pm and Saturday from 11 until 4pm until December 31.
