Those who have donated money to the city will be recognized along with changes in advertisements on Woodstock transit
WOODSTOCK - Those who have donated money to the city will soon be recognized.
Woodstock City Council have approved a Corporate Policy at their latest meeting. Mayor of Woodstock, Trevor Birtch, breaks down what the new framework will include. "What this sponsorship allows it opens it up, if an individual wanted to sponsor equipment that we use at the playgrounds, or rec-centres or a future phase for the recreation centre on the north east side of town. This would give naming rights and it sets out the policy and terms without having to go into debt or raise taxes." Birtch added previous councils had not entertained the idea of placing sponsorships on several locations throughout the city.
A framework has now been put into place and Mayor Birtch explains why this has not happened previously in the city. "Previous councils hadn't considered the sponsorship issue. We have brought this forward and we are going to be very proactive in being able to recognize service clubs, and also allow businesses and industry that exact same opportunity. When people give back to our community in such large ways we need to make sure that the word is out there." Before this gained approval those who would give money wouldn't have their name attached to the project they supported financially.
Mayor Birtch spoke to Heart FM about what other changes are coming to advertisements on city buses. "The policy for buses conflicted a little bit, so this made a small change just to make sure that any of these sponsorships or advertisements don't include any political campaigns, or unsavoury activities such as perhaps alcohol or tobacco use."
