City of Woodstock Receives $6.2 Million in Government Funding for Transit Projects

The money will go towards two new buses, new bus-stop signs and transit software, as well as the expansion of a bus garage and bus storage facility and construction of an automatic bus-washing building.

WOODSTOCK - The City of Woodstock is getting $6.2 million dollars in funding for future transit infrastructure projects.

The money will go towards the purchase of two new buses, new bus-stop signs and transit software, as well as the expansion of a bus garage and bus storage facility and construction of an automatic bus-washing building.

Local MPP Ernie Hardeman made the announcement on behalf of Ontario Minister of Infrastructure Laurie Scott yesterday.

“These vital projects represent an investment of more than $6.2 million from the Ontario, federal and local governments. This investment will help create jobs, improve local transit infrastructure and help to kick start the reopening of our local economy.”

Last July, Ontario nominated a number of transit and road infrastructure projects under the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program for federal approval. Hardeman says he is excited to see this money come to Woodstock.

“I am excited to finally have these much-anticipated projects approved for the people of Oxford. Today’s announcement means that the province’s commitment of more than $1.5 million towards improvements to the fleet and amenities for Woodstock will improve service to residential and industrial areas that are currently undeserved. Specifically, the construction of an automated bus-washing facility will help extend the life cycle of our buses and increase efficiency through better and quicker cleaning.”
