It's Mental Health Week and the theme this year is Name It Don't Numb It.
OXFORD COUNTY - It's Mental Health Week and mental health is currently at the forefront as we endure another lockdown in a trying year.
The theme of this week is Name It, Don't Numb It.
The pandemic has taken an emotional toll on all of us. The latest data shows that 77% of adults in Canada report feeling negative emotions as a result of COVID-19. Lonely, bored, stressed, worried, anxious, isolated and sad are the most common responses across the country according to data from the Assessing the Impacts of COVID-19 on Mental Health national monitoring survey Canadian Mental Health Association.
Research shows that putting your negative emotions into words disrupts activity in your brain that drives the responses to stress and fear. Naming our emotions can actually help us to feel calmer and better understand what we are going through.
CMHA Oxford is hosting a mental health webinar today, Thursday May 6th, at noon. Everyone is invited to join the Facebook Live event hosted by CMHA Oxford Crisis & Outreach Clinicians Casandra DiBenedetto and Janeen Donnor. This discussion will also provide some practical strategies and skills to use when facing mental health challenges.
