Another edition of the Warden Interview took to the airwaves on the Heart FM Morning Show.
OXFORD COUNTY - Garbage collection in Downtown Woodstock was a heavy topic for County Council.
At their meeting yesterday, a motion was brought forward for collection to revert back to the old system of two collections a week. Warden Marcus Ryan was on the Heart FM Morning Show for his bi-weekly interview and said this issue took a lot of time to figure out, but a decision was made.
"So, after much, much debate and two amendments to the motion, what was passed was that we would be reverting for downtown Woodstock only and only until the end of the year to a two-day-a-week collection cycle."
Ryan mentions there were limitations for Council with the upcoming election, and one of those was not being able to spend over $50,000. He says the new garbage collection in Downtown Woodstock will cost $30,000.
Ryan also mentioned in the interview that paramedic services was on the agenda as councillors were given the report of response times, which came back with good results. Response times were being met by the paramedics in Oxford County, and Warden Marcus Ryan says that is because money is being spent on new ambulances and paramedics. Warden Ryan also mentioned there will be a new dispatch system coming to Oxford County.
"So, we're going to try and differentiate better. And what that might mean is we'll have better chances of sending the appropriate service, including fire and ambulance, and hopefully get you the right service that you need first and foremost."
There is no set timeframe for the new system to be operational in the County, and Ryan says County Staff has been tasked with negotiating with every municipality. If you would like to listen to the full interview with Marcus Ryan, you can do so below.
