College Ave Secondary School Works with Woodstock Police through the Youth in Policing Program

One seventeen year old woman is learning everything about policing through a ministry funded summer position.

WOODSTOCK - It's more than a summer job with the police station, it's a once in a lifetime experience.

17 year old Jasmine from College Ave Secondary School is working with the Woodstock police through the Youth in Policing Program.

Constable Nikki Vanleeuwen says this program has the ability to open many doors.

"My students from the last two years are actually in policing programs now in post secondary and our student from four years ago is actually employed here now. So she did police foundations and she is working here in our front office."

During the eight week program Jasmine will learn the ins and outs of policing, help facilitate community outreach, and see things few people get to experience.

"She's outgoing, energetic, I'm sure she's tired at the end of the day because she's learning so much. Yesterday she actually went to the police college and saw graduation - so something that young people her age would never be exposed to or experience without a program like this."

This program is funded by the Ministry.
