A project from Community Futures Oxford will help women entrepreneurs start and run a sustainable business. The program is funded by Libro Credit Union, who is set to open up a new branch in Oxford County in November.
OXFORD COUNTY - Libro Credit Union is funding a new project called Thrive Oxford, which is being run by Community Futures Oxford.
The project is funded by the Libro Credit Union, which fosters, supports and grows sustainable business models mostly owned by women in rural communities.
They are donating $48,000 to Futures Oxford to help start the program.
Libro Regional Manager, Shane Butcher says they're happy to work with Futures Oxford.
"They are looking to assist with these entrepreneurs to look at the triple bottom line, so the environment, the community and as well as economic development. So that's very aligned with where Libro's values are. It's exciting because we are just about to come into Oxford County, in November we should be opening our new branch."
The conversation was started between both groups about 16 months ago and since then they have worked hard at building the project and a relationship with one another.
Community Futures Oxford, General Manager, Allan Simm explains the benefits of the program.
"So the main goals of the program are to create learning opportunities, resources and incentives to increase the number of start-ups and expand existing businesses in Oxford, helping young women entrepreneurs thrive in Oxford County."
The project will also help women entrepreneurs start and run a sustainable business, achieve a B Corporation certification and professional development for regional economic development.
