The price could increase to $3 per tag as of May 1st, 2025.
OXFORD COUNTY - The price of garbage bag tags could be going up in Oxford County.
It currently costs $2 per tag, but County Council will consider a $1 increase during this Wednesday's meeting which would bring the total cost up to $3.
This would be the first price increase in a decade and staff say the money currently being collected through the program is not enough to cover the cost. The County has been using reserve funds to keep the program running, but those funds will run out by the end of the year at this rate.
If it's approved, the price increase for garbage bag tags would take effect on May 1st, 2025 and there would be limit as to how many tags you could purchase before then.
The County uses a user-pay system in order to fund its waste collection program. This means if the County did not charge people for garbage bag tags, it would have to charge individuals through their municipal taxes instead.
