County Council Reviews 10-Year Shelter Plan

The 10-year shelter plan includes the approval of 26 new affordable housing units in our community; 8 in Woodstock and 18 in Tillsonburg.

OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County Council was provided an update on the 10-year shelter plan yesterday during council meeting.

Highlights include 54 additional households receiving a rent subsidy, 62 new affordable housing units in Woodstock and 22 affordable housing units in Blandford-Blenheim nearing completion.

Warden Larry Martin says the County has also approved 26 new affordable housing units; 8 in Woodstock and 18 in Tillsonburg.

"The one in Woodstock is the one on Parkinson Road that we approved awhile ago and I am under the impression the ones in Woodstock are up and getting ready to go but it is hard to get materials for the project right now and then there is another 18 units of affordable housing coming to Victoria Street in Tillsonburg."

Martin says they have a lot of work to do with the shelter plan, but staff are working hard and are doing a great job.

"It is not enough but it is a lot more than we had anticipated and until you see it all listed in a report like this with everything that is listed, we deal with these on a daily basis but you have to get a report like this to get a better idea and understanding of what is actually happening."

The report also highlighted the two Habitat for Humanity dwellings that were started in Drumbo.
