Traffic was backed up on the 401 East bound near the Sweaburg exit today for over an hour after a dangerous collision.
WOODSTOCK - Oxford OPP are once again preaching patience after a crash on the 401 today just outside of Woodstock.
Traffic was backed up for over an hour on the east bound lane near the Sweaburg exit after someone slammed into the back of what is known as a crash truck. The crash truck is in place to protect the workers who were painting lines on the highway. Constable Lisa Naranscik tells Heart FM the incident serves as another reminder to drivers to pay attention to your surroundings.
"Whenever we are travelling on the roadways we need to be aware of what's happening around us, we get the reminders all year round, whether it's snow, watch out for deer, watch out for farm equipment but when we are travelling on the highways we need to be aware of everything that is around us, including other travellers because we are travelling at higher speeds. We have to be conscious that when there is workers in the area, we are going to have to slow down or be ready to manoeuvre around and we have to be ready at all times in case we come across something quickly to be able to stop and manoeuvre safely."
The driver of the vehicle did suffer minor injuries in the collision and was taken to a local area hospital.
