The OPP will be pushing the message on social media over the next week
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford OPP will be preaching Crime Prevention all week.
Starting on Sunday it is Crime Prevention week in Ontario and locally our force will be spreading the message through social media. Sergeant Dave Rektor tells Heart FM they want the public to know about a number of programs they offer to help residents and businesses protect themselves from theft.
"Crime prevention through environmental design, also known as CPTED, this targets homes, out buildings, businesses in a way that makes them less desirable, should they decide to target that property we also have safeguard Ontario where police will work with you to safeguard your property.
He adds they also have the OPP KIDS Program which is designed to build relationships between police and young people and lock it or lose it. Rektor talks about the key message they hope to hammer home during Crime Prevention Week.
"It's about working together to improve safety and security and the big point that we are trying to get across is this is a shared commitment of all Ontarians, everybody has a part to play in Crime Prevention and by working together we can improve community safety and well being."
