Dating Fraud

Local women conned after getting caught up in an on-line romance

Do you really know who's on the other end of your chat session?

A cautionary tale coming from police in an alleged case of on-line dating fraud. 

Oxford OPP have announced the arrest of 28-year-old Jon Mulder of no fixed address.

Police say Mulder developed relationships with several women through social media and dating websites.  He would eventually meet up with the women and would pose as a Veterinarian from the United States.

Police say he would then obtain money from the victims using different methods.

As a result of his arrest, Mulder faces the following charges:
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000
  • Theft of Credit Card x 2
  • Use Stolen Credit Card x 2
  • Fail to Comply with Probation x 2
  • Possession of Stolen Property Under $5000
  • Flight While Pursued by Peace Office x 2
  • Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle
  • Theft Over $5000 of a Motor Vehicle
  • Public Mischief

The male was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act with:

  • Drive While Under suspension
  • Fail to Stop for Police
