Oxford County stays blue as a majority of the nation goes red in the election.
OXFORD COUNTY - Red swept the nation last night, however Oxford County will remain blue.
Dave MacKenzie will continue to serve as MP as Justin Trudeau led the Liberals to a majority government. MacKenzie was pleased with the outcome in the county as he had 25 938 votes netting him 45.6% of the vote, but he is uncertain about the country's future. "You know maybe it was time, let's see. I'm concerned about how Mr. Trudeau and Ms. Wynne will team up, they certainly act as a team. I'm concerned about how Ontario is doing and I might be concerned - we'll see how Canada does. It is a wait and see and to be fair we have to wait. I see many people in here work in the auto industry and many people here are farmers so they see the TPP is a good thing and to have that support means a lot to me."
Candidate for the Liberal Party Don McKay received 18 324 or 32.2% and kept a positive attitude following the results. "Well certainly much thanks to the Oxford Liberals for giving me the opportunity to run, to represent them, and represent the people of Oxford County. It was a great campaign, very positive, and I have no regrets. Tomorrow morning I'll start back as Mayor of East Zorra Tavistock, as well as an Oxford County Councillor, and look forward to continuing my service."
NDP Candidate Zoe Kunschner knows she has nothing to be ashamed of after gathering 16.5% (9 396 votes) and was successful in completing one of the longest campaigns in modern Canadian history. "We ran an amazing campaign. This has probably been one of the most ambitious and aggressive campaigns the Oxford NDP association has ever run: more volunteers and more supporters than ever. Obviously you go into this wanting to win but I am proud of the honest campaign that we ran."
Green Candidate Mike Farlow saw 2 001 votes (3.5%) and bringing in 1 175 votes (2%) was Christian Heritage Party Candidate Melody Aldred.
