It was a chance to learn and tour the facility that stores food items for many charities that serve the hungry in Oxford County.

INGERSOLL - The Food Project Oxford is up and running.

The Food Project Oxford is a place that brings local charities and nonprofits together and is committed to strengthening food security for every resident of Oxford County. Their main goal is to create a community where no one faces hunger, driven by collaboration, compassion, and sustainable solutions.

The project offers a range of programs focused on food access, education, and community support to ensure everyone has reliable, nutritious meals. Chairman of the Project, Jo-Ann Claessens, says an event took place today.

"It's our open house. We've been in the warehouse for a year now, and there are five or six groups that are mainly using the warehouse, the local charities."

Claessens is thrilled to have a space to house non-perishable food items, which might go to waste. She says they have many companies that donate food to the Project, and they are a huge part of making the Food Project a success. Claessens adds that all the groups using the warehouse work together.

"Any charity can take whatever they want. No food belongs to that charity, or that belongs to another. We just use the food as we need to, and it goes out into the community."

Claessens mentioned the open house ran until 7 p.m. During the open house, you were able to see the work they have accomplished this year, learn about the member agencies, and get a tour of the facility.
