Over 14,000 Hydro One customers will be without power early Sunday morning.
WOODSTOCK - Thousands of people will be without power in the Friendly City.
Hydro One says a planned power outage will be taking place from 1:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 18th. Spokesperson Tiziana Baccega Rosa says there will be some maintenance work at the Woodstock transformer station.
"Crews will be out replacing the aging switches and associated equipment so customers can avoid a lengthy outage in the future."
She adds the utility wants to limit the impact to its customers as much as possible.
"We know how challenging it is to be without power, so we look to schedule our planned work when the least amount of power is being used for customers. This outage is going to result in 14,000 customers in the Woodstock and Oxford North area experiencing this outage."
All of the affected customers have already received a call or a text message from Hydro One.
Hydro One goes has a few tips for those living in the affected areas. If you happen to be awake during the power outage, Baccega Rosa says you should make sure you're not using any appliances.
"This is a safety thing because when the power goes on hours later, you might have forgotten that you were in the middle of going something with the stove. So we want to avoid a dangerous situation."
It's also a good idea to fully charge your cellphone and other devices ahead of time, and set an alarm on your cellphone if you have to wake up the next morning. You can also use a battery powered alarm clock instead.
You should keep the fridge and freezer doors closed a much as possible during the outage. If you live in an area that relies on power for your water services, you should fill jugs of water for drinking and cooking beforehand.
If you plan on using a generator during the outage, make sure it's in a dry outdoor area that's away from any doors, windows or vents.
