It was a great showing of participants and money raised for the Heart for Ethiopia's Walk in Their Shoes event.
WOODSTOCK - Projects in Ethiopia are being supported by Oxford County.
Hearts for Ethiopia hosted their Walk in Their Shoes event on October 17th and raised $32,000. The money raised goes to support Tesfa’s Shelter, a safe and loving home for more than 80 vulnerable children in Harar, Ethiopia, and Wellness for Women. Wellness for Women is a unique, wraparound support program to support and empower mothers who have been living in extreme poverty and struggling to care for themselves and their children due to significant health issues and psychological challenges as a result of loss and trauma. Founder and leader of Hearts for Ethiopia, Shelly Green is so thankful for the support.
"It was an incredible afternoon with our participants fully engaged in the learning activities and enjoying being together for a meaningful cause. We are so thankful for the contributions of so many people in our community, from our volunteers and walkers to our donors and sponsors. The money we raised will change many children's and women’s lives in Ethiopia."
The event included an outdoor walk, traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony, Ethiopian market featuring handmade items and multiple activities designed to educate guests of all ages about the realities in the East African country.
The organization offers many ways for people of Oxford County to help support women and children in Ethiopia, including an innovative sponsorship program and fundraising throughout the year, such as Gems & Java in April each year.
