Astronomers Without Borders and Eclipse Glasses USA would like to send your solar eclipse glasses to other people who might need them.
CANADA/UNITED STATES - For those wondering what to do with your solar eclipse glasses, this could be for you.
Two charitable organizations would like people to donate their used eclipse glasses so they can be used in other parts of the world. Astronomers Without Borders and Eclipse Glasses U.S.A would be sending the glasses to other countries and to underserved communities in the United States.
Here in Woodstock, if you purchased Hologramz branded eclipse glasses from Real Treets Popcorn and Sweets, you can return them and receive $1 off a bag of popcorn. A post on the Reel Treats Facebook page says the glasses will be donated to "an organization collecting them for kids in South America who will see an eclipse in August" but it did not specify the name of that organization.
According to TimeAndDate.com, an annual solar eclipse will impact southern North America and most of South America on October 2nd, 2024. A partial solar eclipse will also take place in Europe, northern Asia, northern and western Africa, North America, and northern South America on March 29th, 2025.
The next total solar eclipse in Canada will happen in the western provinces about 20 years from now.
