The organizers of Warm Up Woodstock have seen a decline in donations this year due to the warmer temperatures. The annual open house is scheduled for Saturday November 12th.
WOODSTOCK - The Warm Up Woodstock open house is just around the corner, and they need your help with donations.
Tim Howard is an Agent at Heartland Farm Mutual and he has been helping children stay warm in the winter with the Warm Up Woodstock campaign for six years now. According to Howard, the event has grown every year, but this year, donations are down.
"I have a feeling maybe it has a little something to do with the weather. It's been abnormally warm and I feel like we need that first cold snap where parents are scrambling around their house looking for mittens that fit, boots that fit and snow pants that are the correct size. Then all of a sudden they realize their stuff is too small, and that's when they want to donate."
The open house will take place at the Good Beginnings main office at 871 Dundas on November 12. If you'd like to donate, you can drop off gently used or new winter wear at any Good Beginnings location, C&D Lanes, or Howard's office in Thamesford at Heartland Farm Mutual.
Howard said he was also very happy to see people take the time to knit winter clothes to donate.
"People love it because we keep everything local. It's a fantastic event, and we look forward to helping out many more children this year."
Adult clothes can be donated as well, though instead of going to the Warm Up Woodstock open house, it will go to Operation Sharing and they will distribute the clothes through the Coats for Kids program.
