WOODSTOCK - Dragon boats are about to hit the water at the Pittock Conservation Area in Woodstock.
The Pharmasave Woodstock Dragon Boat Festival will be making a comeback tomorrow with 24 teams from across Southwestern Ontario competing.
It's hosted by the Woodstock Rotary Club and member Dave Harris explains what dragon boat is all about.
"It's a large canoe basically that's 40 feet long. There are 20 paddlers, a steer person at the back to keep them all going straight, and at the front there is a drummer that calls out the beat of the paddles."
He adds the top six teams will compete in the 2,000-metre challenge at the end of the day
"They go down the course through lane one, they turn the boat around and come back down lane four, and around again they'll lap the course, so they have four corners to turn. It's all fun and games when they are going straight, but the minute they have to start turning and they're competing against each other at the corners it gets pretty exciting."
All of the action begins at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow and it's free for spectators to watch. You can find more information online here.
