VON Sakura House is getting a boost from East Side Mario's Charity Golf Tournament
WOODSTOCK - Woodstock East Side Mario's is keeping it local with a donation to Sakura House.
Bar and Promotions Manager for the Woodstock East Side Mario's Nick Hall says in the past East Side Mario's has given to breast cancer initiatives as part of a brand wide campaign; "But they sort of fell back from that this year and kind of let us do whatever we really wanted to do. And a lot of the staff here, a lot of the management, has had very good experiences for personal family members, who've been touched by Sakura house so we thought that would probably be the best organization. We wanted to keep it local and we knew how much it meant to the community."
The funds came from East Side Mario's Charity Golf Tournament. "The donation was about $1 200. It was probably one of our best golf tournaments we've probably ever run as far as that goes," says Hall. "We had huge support from both the staff that worked the day and obviously the patrons who signed up for the golf tournament. Every year you kind of have your regulars, but this year we really seemed to have a boost in numbers so it was really nice to see."
Fund Development Coordinator for VON Oxford Kyra McNamara says the money will go directly to helping their patients."All funds donated to Sakura House now will be used for our annual operations. For the first five years of our operation we did also have a capital campaign, so that was the money to repay the cost of actually building the hospice. Now that that loan is retired thanks to Toyota all of our donations do go toward our annual operations, so directly help support our patients and their families."
