The numbers are in, and 5,869 Oxford County residents decided to vote early in advanced polls this year.
OXFORD COUNTY - The advanced voting numbers are in for Oxford County.
Cara Des Granges, the Bilingual Communications Coordinator with Elections Ontario, says more people decided to cast their ballot early this year.
"In Oxford this year there were 5,869 electors who casted their ballots in advanced voting. In the 2014 election there were 4,769."
Des Granges says the hike could be attributed to multiple factors including media coverage and political party actions.
She adds they open the advanced polls in order to accommodate everyone.
"We want to make it easy. You never know what's going to happen on Election Day; if you're going to be out of town or something like that. For us advanced voting really provides that opportunity to vote ahead of the Election Day."
Across the region; Haldimand Norfolk had 6,504 advanced votes, Brantford had 7,327 and Perth Wellington brought in 6,603.
Kingston and the Islands had the most advanced votes in Ontario; with 11,644 in total. 768,895 people decided to cast their ballot early province wide.
