Elementary Teachers in Ontario will begin a work to rule campaign on Monday.
Elementary Teachers in Ontario will begin a work to rule campaign on Monday. The Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario outlined the job action they will be taking at a press conference this afternoon. For parents in Oxford County a work to rule means the schools will be open and students will still be going to class on Monday. However teachers will only perform the minimum requirements of their job during the action. They will not do things like write report card comments or undertake any activities related to provincial standardized testing. The ETFO has stated things like extra curricular activities and school trips will not be impacted for now. However Heart FM has already heard from a few parents in the region who say their kids school trips have been cancelled because they don't have enough supervision. The Thames Valley District School Board did send Heart FM the following statement.
Thames Valley District Schools will remain OPEN and classes will continue on Monday May 11, 2015. The Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario (ETFO) has announced it will begin a work to rule campaign on Monday May 11, 2015, however this will not impact the day to day teaching at our schools. Teachers will continue to teach and provide extra help to students. Teachers will also continue to maintain contact with parents regarding students during the instructional day and will provide supervisory duties at their school. At this time field trips and extra-curricular activities will continue.
