The gates will open at 4:00 p.m. today and 1:00 p.m. tomorrow.
EMBRO - The Civic Holiday long weekend has arrived, so you should be able to hear the trucks and tractors roaring Zorra Township!
The Embro Truck and Tractor Pull returns this weekend.
The gate will open at 4:00 p.m. today and Secretary Virginia Janssen says the pulling should begin at 5:00 p.m.
"So that is farm tractors straight from the field and we have everything from small 9,000 pound tractors all the way up to some of the biggest tractors they manufacture. Saturday is our modified show, where we have modified trucks and tractors from across the province coming to compete to see who can pull the sled the farthest down the track."
The gates will open at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow with the pulling starting at 2:00 p.m.. It will be sanctioned by the Ontario Truck and Tractor Pull Association and the Southwestern Ontario Tractor Pullers Association.
The two-day event also includes a kids tractor pull, face painting, food booths, a beer garden and more.
Janssen says it attracts about 7,000 to 8,000 people each year.
"We're always very close to actually bringing in the population of Zorra Township into the town of Embro for the weekend, so it's pretty cool to see that."
Admission is $20 per day or $35 for the weekend pass for adults. It's $5 per day or $10 for the weekend for kids ages 5 to 12, and kids under 5 will get in for free. Please note that only cash will be accepted.
Janssen says the proceeds go to several local causes.
"All of the money raised also gets donated back to the community and the various groups that help us out. We also support the local hospitals, school nutrition programs and food banks as well."
The groups that assist with the event include Embro Minor Soccer, Embro Minor Baseball, Zorra Fire and Emergency Services and several Lions Clubs and Optimist Clubs across Oxford County.
