TILLSONBURG - Oxford MPP Ernie Hardeman awarded Bre's Fresh Market with the Local Food Champion certificate in Tillsonburg today.

He congratulated them on their commitment to growing and selling delicious, high quality local food.

Hardeman says it's important for residents to support local businesses.

"The most important thing is of course is that it supports your local community and that's really what communities are. We all live in the same community, we work in the community, we are all part of it and so supporting each other is what life is all about and that's no different in the food production. The second thing of course is when you go and buy it and come out you'll find that it is also the best food because it was produced next door or just down the street. It didn't travel miles and it hasn't been in freezers for weeks and months, it's ready to eat fresh from the field and obviously that's a real positive when it comes to produce. So I think building communities one step at a time starts with supporting other people that live in that same community."

Bre's Fresh Market prides itself on being a one-stop-shop for the best local foods from Oxford, Elgin, and Norfolk County. The market includes locally grown produce, bakery treats, meats and cheeses. They were also featured in the 2019 Local Food Report, which was released on June 5.

Bre’s Fresh Market’s owners Breann and Kyle Gillspie says they ensure their food is ready for customers, which is locally grown.

"We are in such a rich agricultural community yet feeding your family local farm fresh produce is a challenge. We do what we do to make fresh local produce from our farm and neighbouring farms as readily available to our customers as possible."

Bre's Fresh Market also sells sweetcorn, green and yellow beans, as well as pumpkins and squash, which are grown on the Gillspie's farm and picked fresh each morning.

Hardeman says he encourages residents to visit the market.

"When we buy local food, we are making a choice to support our communities like Oxford, our province, and our economy. I encourage everyone to pay Bre's Fresh Market a visit on your next grocery shopping trip."
