Marcia Shelton honoured for two decades of police work, community service.

A Woodstock Police Staff Sergeant has been honoured for 20-years of exemplary service.

Marcia Shelton was given the milestone service award at the Police Services Board meeting earlier this week.

She began her policing career in Woodstock March 1st of 1993 and has worked her way up the ranks from front line officer, to  Scenes of Crime Officer, Breath Technician, Detective, Detective Sergeant and now Uniform Staff Sergeant, in charge of Platoon D.

Shelton has been at the centre of a number of high profile cases over her 20-years.

When she's not fighting crime, Staff Sergeant Shelton is involved in the Community as a United Way board member, and sings the national anthem at various events.  She's also involved in community theatre.

Deputy Chief Daryl Longworth says, “It is an honour and a privilege for me to be a part of this ceremony to recognize the outstanding contribution that S/Sgt. Shelton has made to this community.  Having worked alongside Sgt. Shelton for a number of years I can attest to the commitment and dedication that she has shown this profession and towards the City of Woodstock.  It is important to point out that this medal is not only awarded based on tenure but is recognition of long and meritorious service”.
