Young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter are at great risk of frostbite today.

OXFORD / BRANT -  The frigid temperatures has prompted Environment Canada to issue an Extreme Cold Weather Advisory.  The Wind chill values near minus 30 are due to a cold Arctic air mass affecting the region.

The Wind chill values are near or above the warning criteria of minus 30 today, but cold temperatures near minus 20 or colder are still expected tonight, with temperatures warming up late Tuesday.

Young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter are at great risk.

There is a risk of frostbite as well.  The best way to prevent it is to cover up, or stay indoors.
Experts say it can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with the wind chill.

Pet owners are also advised to not leave pets outdoors today.

Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frostbite and hypothermia.
