Don Edmiston would like to become the Mayor of East Zorra-Tavistock, after previously serving as the Deputy Mayor from 2018 to 2022.
EZT - A former Deputy Mayor is vying for the Mayor's seat in East Zorra-Tavistock.
Don Edmiston was the Deputy Mayor for the Township from 2018 to 2022. He served as a member of the Rural Oxford Economic Development Committee and the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority Board during that time.
He launched a bid for the mayor's seat during the last election in 2022, but placed in second with 948 votes.
Edmiston says a lot has changed over the past four years and something needs to be done about it.
"We need some changes at the county level. East Zorra-Tavistock is running pretty smoothly with good staff and a great management team, but there's a lot of things that I think need fixed at the county level."
He's not impressed with the new price of garbage bag tags, the county's purchase of the former YMCA building in Woodstock, and the current tax rate, especially with the high cost of living.
"Everything is very expensive right now and we keep raising the county taxes. I think its time to seriously look at the economy and make decisions based on what people can actually afford."
He owns Friendly City Taekwon-Do in Woodstock. He says he actually had to cancel two weeks of summer camp this year, because families could not afford to send their kids to camp in this economy.
The municipal election is scheduled for October 26th.
