Many Woodstock City Councillors will be volunteering their time for the Salvation Army's Kettle Campaign
WOODSTOCK - You may see some familiar faces helping out the Salvation Army's Kettle Campaign this year.
5 Woodstock City Councillors that were present at the latest meeting all agreed to donate their time for the upcoming holiday season. Director of Community and Family Services for the Salvation Army, Vanessa Giuliano, knows there is a need for donations to help those living within our community. "I wanted the council to be aware, obviously Christmas is coming, and the importance of our Christmas Kettle Campaign. As I had said before we help out 492 families over Christmas, which is like 561 children that receive toys from us, and the only way in which we can do this is through the generous donations from the community."
Giuliano was excited to gain the approval from council. "It is the first time I have spoken in front of council I was greatly received, and I am very thankful for that, and it is wonderful to hear that 5 councillors were able to help out, I will get the kettle coordinator on them no problem." Councillors Todd Poetter, Jerry Acchione, Shawn Shapton, Connie Lauder, and Sandra Talbot were among the members who agreed to help out, Deb Tait and Mayor Trevor Birtch were not present at the meeting.
With Kettle Campaign season is upon us Giuliano explains why they find it important to provide food and toys to families. "There are lots of people in our community that have a hard time when Christmas hits. There is nothing worse than not having enough money to provide a decent meal with two or three toys, we are not talking about a mountain of gifts around the tree, we will give out toys up to the age of 16. Without any help where is community, where is family, where is love, it is just not there so it is just a basic need."
