Feeling Optimistic

The next step for establishing a Woodstock Optimists Club is set for Thursday night

If you're interested in setting up new events or programs for kids in Woodstock, this could be the club for you.

The Woodstock Optimists are hosting an open house on Thursday night.

They're looking for both new members and new partners.

Norwich Optimist Member Laura Barker explains what Optimists do.  "They'll basically look at the needs of individual kids in the community.  So they'll talk to the schools, all the different youth clubs and the city to find out things that are sort of lacking in Woodstock.  There's a big demand for this type of club, because as you know, there are a lot of young families (in Woodstock)."

The Norwich and Burford Optimists have been working to help Woodstock establish the club in the Friendly City.

Barker says it's a rewarding club and doesn't require a lot of time.  "The average Optimist spends about 2-3 hours a month volunteering.  So some people do it at events, some do it behind the scenes like computer work, but any type of volunteer is welcomed."

The open house is being held at WDDS on Bysham Park Drive from 6-8PM on Thursday.
