Fire Marshall Report

OFM rules Victoria Street explosion caused by negligent arson

WOODSTOCK - The Office of the Fire Marshall is ruling the Victoria Street apartment explosion a result of negligent arson.

Heart FM has obtained a copy of the final report through the Freedom of Information Act following a request submitted back in January of this year.

According to the report, the March 2011 explosion was caused by pentane introduced into the laundry room either by intent or recklessness.

It is believed the extremely flammable liquid or vapour was released after plastic pieces were melted in the dryer for unknown reasons.

The Fire Marshall claims between one and two litres of pentane would have been needed to cause an explosion of this magnitude.

Two people died as a result of the explosion.
