Mayor Trevor Birtch says the decision came down to public safety and proper use of strained staff, who need to be available for other emergencies and not calls caused by fireworks.
WOODSTOCK - The City of Woodstock is looking to ban fireworks during the Victoria Day Long Weekend.
Woodstock had already announced that the parade and festivities in Southside Park have been cancelled. Now City Council has turned their thumbs down on the idea that people may want to put on neighbourhood pyrotechnical show.
Council has passed a bylaw making the sale and use of fireworks illegal for the holiday weekend. Mayor Trevor Birtch says the decision came down to public safety and proper use of strained staff, who need to be available for other emergencies and not calls caused by fireworks.
