John English grew up in Oxford County and he was appointed to the Order of Ontario on January 1st.
BLANDFORD-BLENHEIM - A former Oxford County resident has been appointed to the Order of Ontario.
The list announced on New Year's Day includes John English, who served as the Liberal Member Parliament for the Kitchener riding from 1993 to 1997. That riding has since been dissolved into the ridings of into the ridings of Kitchener Centre and Waterloo-Wellington.
English is also a retired University of Waterloo professor and he's being honoured for his work as a historian. He was appointed to the Order of Canada 24 years ago.
A press release from the province states the following about English:
"Professor John English brings history to life, shaping our understanding of our past and place in the world today. Among his many works are best-selling biographies of Lester Pearson and Pierre Trudeau. He brought his expertise to organizations such as the Canadian International Council and the Dictionary of Canadian Biography/Dictionionnaire biographique du Canada. Professor English also served as a Member of Parliament and received the Order of Canada."
English grew up in the Plattsville area, but he now lives in Guelph.
