Oxford OPP remind drivers to follow the rules of the road

OXFORD COUNTY - While the message never changes, Oxford OPP hope this weekend, drivers will start paying attention.

OPP are once again asking drivers not to drive impaired either by alcohol or drugs.

Constable Lisa Narancsik says they will also be looking for distracted drivers.

"Passengers can be checking out the GPS. They can be your guide telling you which way to go. They can be answering your cell phones if necessary, so there's all kinds of avenues that we can take to make sure that we are arriving alive to our destinations and making it a safe holiday weekend or a safe start to the summer really."

Narancsik says the message is the same as always, if you're going to be drinking, don't drive.

"We do stress it constantly and it is frustrating because it is easily preventable. All these things are preventable. Put down your cell phones or pull over if you absolutely have to be using your cell phone. We absolutely don't have to be driving, there's other methods of transportation that we can take."

"People aren't getting the fact that not just alcohol impairs us but also marijuana and drugs impair our ability to drive too. If people are choosing to do these things, they need to be responsible. Don't drive distracted and don't drive impaired."

OPP will once again be out in full force.
