When it comes to the renewable energy goal Dr. Jose Etcheverry says "You have to continue keeping your momentum going."
WOODSTOCK - One of the guest speakers at the Future Oxford Expo is still praising the County for taking a hard look at sustainability.
Associate Professor and Co Chair of the Sustainable Energy Initiative with York University Dr. Jose Etcheverry tells Heart FM the work being done by Oxford County gives him hope.
"The problem of climate change, unemployment, and a lot of other problems are related to resources and to see a community in Ontario take on the leadership in becoming powered 100 percent by renewable energy gives me a lot of hope for the future."
Etcheverry admits the County will face a lot of challenges to achieve their lofty goal; however he also says it presents a lot of opportunities as well.
"The challenges have to do with maintaining the leadership positions that you have acquired; other communities are going to try to imitate what Oxford and Vancouver are doing and I see that as your biggest challenge. You have to continue keeping your momentum going."
Etcheverry says he was also really impressed with the crowd at the Expo.
"There was a lot of young people there: obviously the teachers were paying attention and they brought primary and high school students to the Expo and that is very important because we are talking about their future."
