Current Ward 6 councillor files for re-election in SWOX
BEACHVILLE - Gerry Mitchell is looking for another term on South West Oxford Council.
The retired Beachville resident has filed papers to run again in Ward 6.
"I'm a long time resident of Beachville, I've lived here pretty well all my life. I know I only have one vote and my opinion at council but I like to try and talk to people. It's just one of those things that I feel I can help the community. I guess the satisfaction I get is the fact that if I can help somebody, it's kind of a feather in my cap personally."
Mitchell says he's looking forward to some of the projects they have coming up in the future.
"Some of the challenges for the future, especially the Lowville Pond Project and then the new Emergency Service building in Beachville which is the fire hall and then there is of course always road construction throughout the township. There is a possibility too of maybe sharing some of the job with other townships, just to cut costs."
Mitchell says one of his proudest accomplishments was bringing winter sidewalk maintenance to the town of Beachville.
"I remember one morning I just happen to be going out in my driveway and the children were out walking on the highway. The snow plow had to stop so that they could get back out on the shoulder again. It just really irritated me and finally within a month, I had the sidewalks all being cleaned."
Mitchell says he's very active on the Beachville Parks and Recreation Committee as well as the Beachville Museum.
