A local man who had to learn how to walk again is one of 8 finalists for the GoodLife Transformation Challenge.
WOODSTOCK - An Oxford County resident is in the running for the GoodLife Transformation Challenge.
John Paton suffered a spinal injury in a car accident in 2014 and there was a chance he would never walk again. He spent about 3 months in hospital and underwent 4 months of occupational therapy before joining the GoodLife gym in the Woodstock Quality Hotel and Suites.
General Manager Selina Guy says Paton is a huge inspiration.
"I know people love the weight loss stories and we have lots and lots of those, but this one we thought was extra special to us because John actually got to give up his handicap sticker in his truck."
Paton now goes to the gym about 6 days a week. Guy tells Heart FM he has become the heart and soul of the club.
"He is a huge inspiration for to many people here in the club. Anybody that is here the same time that he is, he's here every morning, they all know John is in the club. I see that he's got this huge community of friends around here and he just becomes your family after a little while."
Paton is one of 8 finalists from across the country. The winner of the Transformation Challenge is based on the results of online voting, which will end at midnight tonight. The winner of the challenge will be awarded with $3,500.
