OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford MPP Ernie Hardeman is encouraging everyone to shop locally in his Buy Local initiative.
Hardeman believes it's important to support Oxford County businesses in wake of recent layoffs at Cami, Siemens and the Schneiders plant in Thamesford.
"It's important that we do all of our shopping locally, at least as much as we can that's available so we can help our merchants and to create more employment for those who find themselves out of the job because of the layoffs."
Hardeman hopes this initiative will boost the economy.
"If you have fewer people earning money in the county you have fewer shoppers in the store, so we wanted to make sure that we could do whatever we could do to help move that along."
The campaign will have its own advertising, social media posts and posters for merchants to hang in their businesses.
Hardeman will also continue to meet with local business owners in order to talk about the challenges they face.
