A small group of children are making their wishes known to officials in East Zorra Tavistock. Five children from Hickson aged 6-12 wrote a letter requesting that the Library Board consider re-opening the volunteer library in Hickson, and offered to volunteer to run the facility. CEO and Chief Librarian Lisa Miettinen says the Library Board has indicated it is not in a position to reopen a closed library branch. "The Township is not resonpsible for library services but if you may recall when the library branch was closed in 2005, a group of community volunteers did maintain a drop-in centre in the former library building for a couple of years and it offered some lending of donated books and it was a community drop-in space". Miettinen says if the children are looking for a place in the community, it will likely take that kind of community involvement again to see it become a reality. She believes this is the first such request she can remember from the community asking to reopen the facility after it closed in 2005. The closest library to Hickson would be Innerkip.
