Construction has started on a new infrastructure network that will be high speed internet to over 480 homes, farms and businesses in Drumbo and Gobles.
The $1.52 million dollar project is part of the Ontario Government's commitment to connecting ever community with high-speed internet by the end of 2025. Local MPP Ernie Hardeman says this is great news for Oxford County.
"It is great to see broadband expansion in the Gobles and Drumbo communities. Today’s announcement brings us one step closer to ensuring everyone in Oxford gets access to reliable internet service."
Hardeman says high speed internet will help local farms and businesses continue to grow. It will also help local residents who are working from home and it make it easier to connect with family and friends online.
The expanded fibre-optic service is supported by the Governments of Canada and Ontario, each committing up to $349,000. The contracts to expand broadband services in the communities of Drumbo and Gobles were awarded by Southwestern Integrated Fibre Technology (SWIFT) Inc, a not-for-profit corporation, initiated by local municipalities to address connectivity in Southwestern Ontario.
