Hit and Run Investigation Underway in Woodstock

Woodstock Police say a child suffered minor superficial injuries after they were hit by a burgundy SUV on James Street late Wednesday afternoon.

WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Police Service is investigating a hit and run on James Street.

Police say a burgundy SUV hit a child at around 6:40 p.m. on Wednesday after the child ran out into the roadway.

The child suffered a minor superficial injury and was able to get up and run back to their home after the crash. Police say the SUV stopped immediately after the crash and backed into a nearby driveway as the child got up. The SUV remained there for about 15 seconds before taking off. The child was taken to the hospital for assessment after the incident.

Police say the driver of the SUV was a man in his mid-thirties with blonde or brown hair and officers believe he was the only person in the vehicle at the time.

The Woodstock Police Service would like to remind all drivers out there to be on the lookout for kids playing in the streets, especially in residential areas. Parents should also talk to their kids about playing safe outside and looking both ways before crossing the street.

Anyone with information in regards to this crash should call the Woodstock Police Service at 519-537-2323. You can also submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
