Pets are not Christmas presents, but you can find lots of great gift ideas through the Oxford County Animal Rescue's online Christmas auction.
OXFORD COUNTY - The Oxford County Animal Rescue has a few reminders for everyone as we head into the holidays.
Foster Coordinator Anna Homes says pets are not Christmas presents.
"These guys are a lifetime commitment. Depending on the animal, you could be looking at 15 years of having that fur baby with you to love every single day."
Holmes adds the holiday season is also a stressful time of the year, so you would have to have a plan in place before bringing a pet home.
"The Christmas holidays are busy! There is a lot going on with guests, traveling, and lots of things the animal should not be putting in their mouth like wrapping paper or ribbon. Ribbon is a big one because that doesn't necessarily come back out the way we want it to."
If you are still looking for the perfect gift, the Animal Rescue is currently holding its online Christmas auction over Facebook this week with lots of great items up for grabs. It closes at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday December 9th and you can view the items and place your bids online here.
Now that we're entering into the cooler months, Holmes would also like everyone to keep an eye out for outdoor cats.
"We have some cats that are either indoor/outdoor cats or have been abandoned and they're looking for warmth. So before you start your car just give the hood of your car a little bang so the cat could scatter if that is a concern."
If you have an outdoor cat that hangs around your home, Holmes recommends creating a shelter for it so it can stay warm.
Anna Holmes called the Heart FM studio to chat with Dan and Marcie on Wednesday December 6th. You can listen to the full interview below:
