Huron Park Teacher Recognized with Prime Minister's Award

A teacher at Huron Park has been recognized for the all the hard work and dedication both in and out of the classroom.

WOODSTOCK - A teacher-librarian with Huron Park Secondary School has received the Prime Minister's Award.

The Certificate of Achievement was given for the work done both in and out of the classroom by Elaine Haupt.

"I work with student voice, I contribute in commencement, I work with student-teachers and mentor new teachers in the board. So there's a lot of behind the scenes work that I end up doing. When I was younger I did a lot of coaching before I had kids and I was able to stay at school a lot later."

Haupt was nominated by the administration team at the school and she was one of ten other teachers across Ontario to be recognized.

When it comes to teaching, Haupt says she has a philosophy she likes to impart to her students: when you are writing you are speaking, when you are reading you are listening, and when you speak you are publishing.

"I try to use all those elements when I'm working with kids because I don't want them to always be the speaker. Sometimes I want them to be the reader or the listener, and sometimes I want them to be the audience and I want them to reflect. And it helps keep in mind that I'm working with people and I want them to grow into very aware people by the time they finish school."
