Attack U-15 girls team makes consolation final in Cambridge tourney.
The Under 15 girls O.B.A basketball team had a solid showing at a recent tournament in Cambridge. The first game on Friday night was a renewal of previous tournament match ups. The girls fell to a seasoned Centaurs team by 4 points. Definitely, they had a much better result than the 19 points previously.
On Saturday the girls won their first game of 2014, beating Peterborough Power, 32-29. A strong defensive effort from the relatively young Midget girls was the difference. Their hard work proved itself as the girls stopped the Power from scoring in the final minutes. The Boston Pizza player of the game was Olivia Coomber with a solid all around game.
The Consolation final was next against the Brampton Breakdown. In a previous tournament the Attack girls lost to the Breakdown due to fatigue. This game proved the opposite although the Midget girls let the Brampton team roar out to a 14 point lead at half. Some half time adjustments inspired the Under 15 girls to roar back and take the lead in the fourth quarter. Foul trouble with the games MVP, Carter Machin, proved to be too much as the Oxford Attack fought hard but eventually lost 40-34.
The effort and execution the Attack girls showed at this tournament is a sign of good things to come in their next tournament March 1st at Notre Dame H.S in Woodstock.
